Introduction to Word Processor & Microsoft Word
Welcome to this session from the V I TECH CLUB! In this session, we will be discussing word processors and specifically Microsoft Word. The main objective of this session is to understand the definition of a word processor, gain knowledge about Microsoft Word, explore some of its features, and differentiate between Microsoft Word and Notepad. Before delving into these topics, it is important to understand the significance of learning Microsoft Word. To illustrate this, let's consider a real-life example.
Getting Started
Ramu is a member of the Logistics team who happens to have vision impairment. As part of his work, he is responsible for noting down requirements for meetings, trainings, programs, etc., and coordinating them.
Ravi (Manager): Hey Ramu, could you please come into my office? We have an urgent requirement that we need to address.
Ravi proceeds to provide Ramu with all the details received from an external client.
Ravi: Ramu, have you taken note of everything I said? Please ensure that nothing has been missed.
Ramu: Yes, sir. I have taken note of everything. Rest assured, I haven't missed anything. I will compile all the information and send it out to the team.
Ravi: Have you recorded these requirements in a notepad? How will you send it out to the team? It will appear as a continuous paragraph.
Ramu: Don't worry, sir. I will paste everything into Word and format it accordingly. The team will be able to identify all the important action items just by looking at the document headings. You can then confirm if I have included all the requirements.
Ravi: Excellent! I'm glad you know how to use MS Word. I want the Requirements document to be visually appealing. Looking forward to your document, Ramu!
Ramu sends the document to his manager and team.
Ramu: I am pleased that I learned how to use MS Word last month with the help of my friend. It has made a significant difference in how sighted individuals perceive and read documents.
So, friends, aren't you happy for Ramu? I'm sure you're curious to know how MS Word differs from Notepad. Let's put it this way: How would you feel if your table had items like books, pens, scissors, and a stapler all mixed up? Now, imagine having them organized neatly, with books stacked to the left and pens in a pen stand. It would be much easier to find everything, right?
MS Word is like the organized table. It not only looks visually appealing to sighted individuals but also allows for easy navigation and retrieval of information. I'm sure you're eager to learn more about MS Word and its features. So let's begin right away!
Concept Explanation
Now, let me ask you, apart from typing text, what other tasks can you perform in a Notepad application? Do you know what additional features it offers? If you're unsure, don't worry. Let me explain using an example.
Just like your television has various features such as adjusting volume and brightness, different applications also have their own unique set of features. These features vary from one application to another.
Microsoft Word is a word processor application that enables users to create professional documents by typing and formatting text in different styles. There are several word processor applications available in the market, such as Open Office Document Writer and Microsoft Word.
Microsoft Word, often referred to as MS Word, is one of the most widely used word processor applications in office environments. It is developed by Microsoft Corporation and is included in the Microsoft Office suite.
Compared to Notepad, Microsoft Word offers numerous advanced options. Some of these features include providing a proper structure to documents through headings, performing spell checks to ensure error-free content, providing word counts, and allowing data to be organized in table formats for easier information retrieval.
